Dark Morning

Concert lineup:

Piotr Schmidt – trumpet
Wojciech Niedziela – piano

In 2016, Piotr Schmidt and Wojciech Niedziela combined their extraordinary skills in a joint project. Their work is rich in fantastic compositions, unusual arrangements, phenomenal improvisations and a unique atmosphere!

Since they began touring all over Poland, their playing style has crystallized, the compositions have become noble, and the intimate mood of their music radiates an unprecedented depth of message.

The project has matured and it is time to record it on an album. The artists met at the end of June 2017 in the studio. The result is twelve amazing and unique compositions by Wojciech Niedziela and Piotr Schmidt, which were released by SJRecords on September 1, 2017.

This entirely original album - all compositions and performances are by the trumpeter Piotr Schmidt and the pianist Wojciech Niedziela (...). It is an intimate and passionate dialogue of two magisterial improvisers. The listener cannot but appreciate the musical heights at which this erudite and harmonically and expressively sophisticated conversation is held. It is a conference of masters, and just as expected from such acclaimed musicians it is held in quietude, with mutual attention and respect, only rarely accentuated with a witty chuckle or contrariness, relaxing tensions which the music has built.
Piotr Kałużny, Jazz Forum 12/2017

In their joint project, the musicians developed their own, unique musical language, impossible to translate by other instrumentalists, making "Dark Morning" a truly unique album, without its equivalent on the Polish jazz scene.
Robert Ratajczak, LongPlay.blox

The unique arrangements, coherent improvisation and the captivating atmosphere of this release make the album worth returning to again and again by creating an emotional bond with the music with the listener.
Konrad Beniamin Puławski, Laboratorium Muzycznych Fuzji

There is no doubt about the professionalism of the recording and the reliability of the musicians, and the sensitively produced sounds have their own breath, resonating in a vast space.
